First - read from the script. Although I highly recommend that you write down the outline of the content to include in the podcast, there is no need to read it verbatim from the script. When most people try to read directly from the script, they sound like Ben Stein. "Bueller?" It's not entertaining, you will lose your audience before you have a chance to start. Therefore, unless you have a background in acting or impromptu reading, it may be a good idea to give up the script. A simple solution is to list the main points of the conversation, the record card, and even a more detailed overview of what you intend to say in the podcast. As long as the format leaves room for improvement, it becomes more friendly and conversational. It may take a few tries to get used to "wing" it, but you will sound much better. We still recommend that you rehearse and edit your podcast as much as possible until it sounds too scripty or artificial.
Second - the sound. While not everyone can buy a truly sleek product value, it's important to at least look a bit professional. This means investing in a high quality microphone, some headphones and some sort of editing program. But this does not necessarily involve a lot of investment. Get a reasonable number of microphones and headphones, and you can download free programs like Audacity to edit your show. Audacity will allow you to put down your music tracks, edit coughs, "hmm", and even some podcasts that you are not happy with. It is also worthwhile to perform a sound check before recording an incomprehensible podcast for 15 to 30 minutes. Check that the microphone volume is adjusted correctly and that there is no background interference.
Third - infrequent episodes. No one wants to subscribe to the show if it is only broadcast occasionally. why? Mainly because if it is not enough for you to participate in the content, it is difficult to enter and maintain interest in the program. If not weekly, try at least to play the show on other weeks. It is true that some programs are only released once a month, but generally speaking, the higher the frequency of the program broadcast, the higher the ratings.
Number four - no call to action. It is rare for an audience to find your podcast in the context of your website. Most people may accidentally discover your podcast through the podcast directory, which is why it's important to include a call-to-action at the end of the podcast. The truth is, if you don't provide a clear way for people to interact with you, then they won't.
Number five - no album cover. This actually only applies when podcasts are submitted to various podcast directories and podcatchers. For example, iTunes allows album art, and without it, people won't even watch podcasts.
