What is the criminal law?

The US Congress and state legislatures enforce criminal law. Traditionally, state courts have adopted criminal law based on English common law.

The current campaign is a criminal law formed by the legislature rather than the court. Most of the crimes committed are protected by state criminal law. For example, if a crime such as robbery occurs in a state and is carried out by an individual in the state, it will be protected by state criminal law.

Some of the crimes dealt with as federal crimes include:

• Federal employee
• Federal tax
• Federal property
• Received federal benefits
• Civil rights guaranteed by the federal government
• Violations, including interstate commerce, such as good behavior for transporting individuals or through state governments

For example, attacking a federal employee or robbing a US post office is considered a federal crime.

What are the types of crime?

Crime is divided into two basic departments:

• Serious crime
• Misdemeanor

These differences depend on the seriousness of the crime and the extent of the punishment. A felony is a crime that can be punishable by imprisonment for more than one year. You are entitled to a jury when you are accused of a felony. Some common law felony include:

• Robbery
• Rape
• Murder
• Rogue
• Rebellious
• Kidnapping

When accused of a misdemeanor, this usually means that the offence is punishable by imprisonment for less than one year. If a misdemeanor is considered serious enough, you also have the right to be tried in a jury.

The common law system that separates crimes such as misdemeanours and felony is increasingly being replaced by modern institutions.

These modern systems are based on the model law, called the "criminal code", which distributes crime according to degree.

First-degree crimes include the most serious crimes, such as:

• Sexual abuse
• Kidnapping
• Murder

Four-level crimes include the least serious crimes such as mischief.

The Criminal Code also recognizes that criminal acts are less than criminal acts, such as illegal acts and illegal acts.
