If you are considered a "Go To Guy", everyone will call when their computer is infected with a virus, will life be greatly improved?

Think about the ability to remove spyware, rootkits, adware, viruses, Trojan horses, etc. from any and all computers? Today may be your lucky day because I have several tips that I would like to share with you. These important facts will help you achieve the work, trial and error, and time required to become a malware removal expert.

The following five skills are MANDATORY, for those who want to be experts in virus removal:

1.] Implement which is the best [and worst] virus scanning software

Learning the best and most effective software to use when removing malware is one of the most important attributes of a virus removal professional. An important part of becoming a virus removal expert is understanding the software used to remove malware. Not all virus scanning software is equal; there are some expensive programs that need to be refurbished every year [repurchase], but some of them are not as effective as some free software! In other words, the $50 virus in the shiny new box will seriously detect only three 10 viruses - this will destroy the computer!

Norton Anti-Virus, McAfee or Panda, or the most powerful solution, can't remove every infection from the computer [betting you don't know]! In fact, no specific software can completely remove all infections from your computer. It's important to use multiple types of software when scanning malware. Understanding WHICH software is the key to becoming a master of virus removal.

2.] Ability to educate users about how to avoid infection [and how to get infected first]

Another skill that must be learned and taught as an expert is that people are usually infected first! In other words, you need to pay close attention to the current and not too distant infections. By tracking different infections, you can also track the method of infection or the cause of malware "execution" or propagation. For example, did the customer click on the image they sent via email? They clicked on "you are infected with a pop-up window" [or even shut it down]? Do they allow infected computers on the network?

Understanding how to communicate with customers and educating them about how to prevent infection is a necessary skill that many technicians and consultants cannot learn or practice. Hard to understand ["geek talking"], rude, aggressive, or a step in the wrong direction of any professional.

3.] Understand which processes running in Windows are "normal" operating system processes

In order to remove any and all malware from your PC, it is important to know what can't be removed. Deleting system files, folders or other important Windows files can cause the computer to become unreliable, lose data, and, in the worst case, cause the computer to fail to boot at all. It is critical to understand which processes are running in Windows.

This can be difficult to do because whenever the software is installed on a computer [trusted or malicious], the software has a process running in Windows, or a Windows host that relies on processing [such as svchost.exe]. You can identify processes that run in Windows by default, and how to identify harmful processes, and you are one step closer to becoming an expert. Unfortunately, because of the large number of processes and files that can be run on Windows at any time [and vary from computer to computer], it's best to learn through hands-on experience.

4.] What do you know when you know "nothing can be done"

Every time a virus is infected, there will be a period of time when you are not allowed to install any software at all, especially the anti-virus software you will use to eliminate infection at hand. At the same time, the firewall will be disabled, the Windows Security Center will be stopped, the Internet connection may be disabled by malware, the computer will not be able to start in safe mode or may not be able to start! What are you going to do?

Virus removal professionals have learned how to "solve" the problems that infection can cause. He or she knows how to use an external drive to back up precious data and then successfully scan and clean the virus on the computer. The expert also knows how to re-enable Internet connections that have been disabled by malware, and how to remove nasty and difficult viruses can cause Internet browsers to "redirect" to BAD sites [sites that contain more viruses].

Experts also know how to preserve the damage caused by malware infections and restore the computer to a "normal" state, especially when removing hidden threats that MOST anti-virus software cannot detect. Steal passwords, credit card information, contact names and information, etc.; then upload them to other spammers and thieves. Editing a HOST file is a way to eliminate the damage caused by malware, or you can manually delete malicious files that normally appear in the same folder type, such as "System32."

5.] Ability to learn by reference to step-by-step details or instructions

Before reading this article, is it more difficult to become a virus removal professional than you expected? I have learned the "difficult approach", which may take years of training - experiencing various scenarios, multiple types of infections and behaviors; and overcoming many of the problems encountered in removing viruses, truly becoming "professionals."

It takes a lot of time and you need to experience many different computers yourself in order to skillfully adjust the computer to the level of performance that was achieved before it was infected. Adjustments are required each time malware is removed, mainly because most infections cause the computer to run "slower" than before the infection.

Adjustments include [among other things]: clear the registry, remove unnecessary programs from boot and Windows, close unwanted services, clean up temporary files, adjust Windows settings for maximum speed and performance; and more.
