Book Review - Energy Work: The Secrets of Robert Bruce's Therapy and Spiritual Development

I have been looking for new tools for myself and others to help me improve, heal and empower. I believe that understanding a small amount of energy is one of these tools. So in the library, I decided to type "energy body" in the keyword search.

This led to my book on Robert Bruce. When I read how the authors discovered the introduction of body-conscious tactile imaging, I was immediately drawn in to better teach energetics to blind students. Since energetics is most often taught through visualization, as a teacher, I am fascinated by another method. In teaching, it is a very desirable skill to be able to change the way in which information is presented to different learners to maximize their understanding. Since most people are hard to imagine, I want to learn this technique myself.

Body-conscious tactile imaging is the feeling of your touch through the body. The first practice he suggested was to gently rub or scratch specific areas to help focus on body awareness. For example, rub your knees to cause a slight sting. Feeling stinging. Then feel more knees and become a joint farther away from it. Transfer your body consciousness around your knees as if you were bandaging it. You can try this at any point in your body. Touching can help you focus on this, but with practice, you don't need to rub or scratch the area you care about.

Most exercises involve creating a physical stimulus to create a memory. This is the same as visualization. The mind relies on memory to assist it in energy work.

Bruce has some other useful tips. In order to calm the mind, he suggests recording a diary before the relaxation or energy work session. If the mind starts to chatter, please say firmly: "I choose not to think. I choose to relax and be awake."

Through Chapter 3, you will create energy balls and learn different energy work actions to help you manipulate energy. Bruce guides you on how to inhale and exhale with each movement; this is what I use and teach myself.

This book covers the work of chakras - or what Bruce calls "primary energy center work" - and charges energy through intentions, energy blockage, self-healing, and energy treatment with others. The book contains a lot of information, and he introduces the theme of energy work very comprehensively. I have not digested it all.

Bruce does visualize through tactile imaging ["making a green ball"]. In addition, in several ways, Bruce's energy perspective is not perfect with my own point of view. However, I still recommend this book to anyone who wants to deepen their understanding of the energy body and its systems. He explained some things simply and systematically in a basic, approachable style. I think this will be especially useful for Reiki practitioners and other therapists who work or want to use energy.
