Free Screenplay Software: Amazon Screenplay Review

Amazon Studio has just released a new free scripting software.

Let's see what it can do.

It is called Amazon from

Storywriter
from

It is a cloud-based application that you can open in your browser. You can visit it at: studios.amazon.com. Click "Register" and enter your Amazon account information.

Create a new script

Access from

Storywriter
from

Go to Create - Write a movie or TV script.

Now we are in the main interface. It's all very simple and straightforward. You can create a new script or import an existing one. To start a new one, just click and go directly to the page to start typing.

The strange thing is that if you start a script, the default format here is action instead of Scene title. So let's change it from

on site
title from

. You can use TAB and ENTER to jump to format presets, just as you are used to.

What else can you do here?

You have a title page. If you keep scrolling up, it will show up at the top.

What else?

You can turn the element menu in the upper right corner on and off, and if you like, you can activate typewriter scrolling here.

The menu in the top left corner allows you to:

  • Rename script
  • If you don't want to scroll all the way to the top, edit the title page

Then you have "Save Draft" and "Create Copy". The difference is that:

If you save a draft, the current version of the script is locked and you can save this version as a read-only draft.

So you can reply to it at any time.

If you make a copy, the new version of the script is still editable and you can save it with a different name.

Export script format

You can export the script as from

PDF
from

 , from

final draft
from

 with from

fountain
from

 .

You can submit your script to Amazon Studios. of course.

What is missing?

Obviously, it is designed to give you an easy and interference-free way to write and do whatever you want.

If this is what you are looking for then do it well.

The only obvious missing is the italic and bold format. And stressed.

So, as you might say, it's a nice, clean, compact, basic authoring application that can do very well.

But you are wrong.

Because it provides very useful hidden features, I will show you in one second.

But let's test some other things first.

How does it look on mobile devices?

Not bad, but missing a cruel thing: writing. On your mobile device, the app is read-only. So, don't write on the go. Sorry, guys.

Can you write offline?

Yes, you can. no, you can not. It depends on the browser you are using. If you want to work offline, you'll need to download the Chrome browser app. You can get it from storywriter.amazon.com. If you're signed in, you'll see the authoring interface, so just log out and you'll see the "Install a free Chrome app" button. This will install the chrome app launcher and offline Amazon from

Storywriter
from

 application.

It's almost identical to the cloud version, but if you're working offline, you need to know a few things:

  • You cannot import scripts
  • You can't export
  • Obviously, you can't submit scripts to Amazon Studios
  • You can't do anything in the profile menu because all of them require an internet connection.
  • For example: you can quit

But be careful: if you log out before syncing the edited script back to the Amazon server, you will lose all your changes.

How do you synchronize your scripts?

You go from

Storywriter
from

Click the Home screen, click the logo in the upper left corner, and then click the cyan sync button next to the script.

This will update the cloud version of your script, and if you see a green check, then you are fine.

a hidden gem for the screenwriter

it is good. I promised to give you a hidden feature, right here.

Remember, I told you from

Storywriter
from

 Can be exported to from

PDF
from

 , from

final draft
from

 with from

fountain
from

 ?

It can also import these formats.

This means that you want to use it from

Storywriter
from

Whether you write or not, you get free from

PDF
from

 , from

final draft
from

 with from

fountain
from

 converter.

You can import one from

PDF
from

 Script, and from

Storywriter
from

The format will be kept and made editable. So now you can export it to from

final draft
from

 Either from

fountain
from

 Almost anything you like.

And I think this is cool.

Ok, that is it. If you want to try from

Storywriter
from

 Give it a spin.
