General International Toll Free Number (UIFN)

What is UIFN? from

 ?

The Universal International Toll Free Number [UIFN] enables International Freephone Service [IFS] customers to associate with the same unique toll-free number in the world.

UIFN consists of a three-digit country code for global service applications, 800, followed by an 8-bit Global Subscriber Number [GSN], which produces an 11-bit fixed format. [IFS callers must dial the international prefix before UIFN].

The ITU Telecommunication Standardization Bureau has been requested to perform the tasks of the UIFN Registrar, which is responsible for processing registration requests and allocating the GSN portion of UIFN in accordance with ITU-T [new] E.169 and [revised]. Recommendation E.152, "International toll-free telephone service".

Some history about UIFN.

Initially, the international toll-free telephone service had an access method: a domestic toll-free number [customers must transmit different numbers in different formats in each country]. This is often too complicated for large companies and their customers. The market demand for universal digital formats is clear.

This demand was reflected in the contribution of the ITU-T Study Group in 1993, and in 1997, ITU introduced UIFN and was adopted by operators/operators around the world.

just now:

IFN is suitable for companies that want local information

UIFN is for companies that like corporate image and want to cover customers in multiple countries with one message and one number

A statement related to UIFN.

"Anyone, whoever picks up any type of phone, should be able to call the international toll-free number and the phone should be free."

Because in some cases, technically and/or economically unfeasible, calls are always free to callers, so there is a second statement:

"If you have to choose between some type of charge and no access at all [especially for mobile phones], we admit that some charges [for callers] are prioritized overaccessible."
Conditions for the implementation of UIFN between any two countries.

UIFN bilateral service agreement between two international operators [one as an access provider for another national service provider and vice versa]

Existing domestic 00800 interconnection arrangements with all fixed and mobile operators [including payphones]

All interested parties are willing to route 00800 calls to UIFN access providers

Implementation of agreed methods between international airlines to distinguish between different origins/tariffs [usually dual routes]

Ideally, the host mobile operator does not charge roaming charges [if the non-roaming mobile caller's access is free]

If more parties in a country provide access to UIFN, it is necessary to implement a method of identifying access providers in the network [probably an IN solution]

UIFN format.

UIFN consists of a 3-bit CC [ITU-T E.164 Recommendation Country Code] for global service applications, 800 and an 8-bit Global Subscriber Number [GSN], resulting in an 11-bit fixed format.

for example,

The UIFN of the IFS customer can be +800 12345678, of which 12345678 is the GSN of the IFS customer.

IFS callers must dial the international prefix before UIFN.

The benefits of UIFN.

The Global International Toll Free Number Service simplifies the company's free operations and streamlines telecom management by optimizing the company's marketing spend by using a toll-free number in all participating countries. It is not necessary to set up and maintain different numbers for each country.

No operator assistance required
Easier to remember, easier to advertise
Use the company's advertising efforts to "universally" promote a single number
Establish a global corporate image
Provide a locally existing look without the need for a physical location in the country
You can embed an existing US toll-free number by inserting a trailing or trailing padding number to achieve a total of eight digits
No need for operator assistance for single-step dialing, no matter where the call comes from
UIFN problem.

Visit: UIFN is an unregulated service and it is not mandatory. Some telecommunications providers are free to block or not provide access to UIFN

Double charges: Some mobile service providers charge mobile callers the cost of dialing a toll-free number [while receiving a wholesale rate using their network]

Technical barriers: The [financial] system needs to be adjusted to ensure proper handling between the parties.
