Hire a list of property management companies

There are some basic steps you really need to follow when trying to choose a property management company. Whether you are looking for a tenant to rent a home or a landlord or investor looking to help you manage your day-to-day business, this list will help you make the right decision:

  1. Check the Business Improvement Board: Visit the BBB website and you can enter the company name to see if there are any complaints and check the company's rating. It is in your best interest to deal only with BBB member companies. Only then will they be responsible for complying with BBB's rules for protecting you and keeping them accountable.
  2. Verify its certification: Of course you only want to do business with a company with the right certification. The Real Estate Management Association website is a great resource for you to verify this information. The link is as follows.
  3. Perform a general search: In general, people want to talk about their experiences. They want a forum to share their news and let others listen. The Internet provides an excellent way to share this information. All you need to do is name and location of the company you are considering, and see what happens. If the company has a suspicious reputation for customers who are dissatisfied in the past, you may see forums and posts.
  4. Ask a friend: Just as people want a place to post an experience online, your friends and even friends of friends will be happy to share good and bad company experiences with you. If you know someone who rents a house, ask them if they are dealing with a property management company. If so, what is the experience?
  5. Take action: There is very little that gives you a better understanding of how property management companies handle their business, rather than accessing their current property. Take an unannounced driveway to their apartment and/or home to assess neighborhoods, building conditions, lawn maintenance and other features that you think are important.
  6. Getting a contract: Another great way to get to know how a company represents its owners and investors and to work with tenants is to look at their lease contracts. Please remember to consider the required rental period, deposit amount, pet regulations, guest restrictions, etc.
