How computers can benefit society

The computer is a great machine. They are everywhere, and society relies on them to manage our world. There is no doubt that computers have almost unlimited applications and they are multiplied at a steady rate. Many of these applications benefit society directly or indirectly. The three most important ways in which computers benefit society are to create more information technology professionals, create new car security features, and open up groundbreaking communication methods. Currently, these machines have many other beneficial features, such as their use to diagnose patients, run weather simulations to predict future weather patterns, and calculate large complex data sets. With the emergence of new applications for computer systems, society will benefit.

Create more information technology [IT] majors that are proportional to how many new computer systems are used. As new computers are sold to consumers, the demand for more IT industries will increase as consumers need these professionals to maintain, upgrade and repair their new computer systems. . More work can be provided when new computer applications are discovered. This makes sense because new applications require trained new professionals to handle that particular application. For example, when the World Wide Web was introduced, many new occupations emerged. Some of these occupations include web designers and server administrators, as well as online marketers. These factors indicate that computers directly benefit the society by creating new information technology professions that are critical to the development of the workforce in any country.

The computer was introduced into the car in the late nineteenth century to control engine functions, fuel injection and signal timing. Until recently, computers began to work to help save lives by enabling automakers to create new car safety features. Airbags are a very important safety feature in automobiles. The computer is located in the steering wheel of the car, which is equipped with an airbag and is the only device that can signal the deployment of the airbag in the event of an accident. According to McCormick [1999], it was estimated that between 1990 and 1997, airbags saved approximately 150 lives in Canada. In the United States, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration [NHTSA] estimates that On September 1, 1999, airbags saved the lives of more than 4,600 Americans involved in car accidents. "This is not possible without a computer system. Another popular safety feature is the anti-lock brake system, or ABS. The purpose of the anti-lock brake system is to prevent the vehicle from locking its tires, which has proven to be obvious The use of computers to reduce the number of car accidents and the number of deaths involved in such accidents has proven to be beneficial to society.

Society relies on fast and reliable communication. Computers enable us to open breakthrough communication methods that satisfy these dependencies. One method of communication is called e-mail. Email has become a common form of communication because it is free, reliable, and most importantly, extremely fast. Since the nature of email is electronic data, it is related to the delivery and receipt of messages on a computer. Another popular method of fast communication is instant messaging or IM. According to a survey [Shiu & Lenhart, 2004], "53 million American adults use instant messaging, which is particularly attractive for young people and technology enthusiasts." Like email, instant messaging allows many people to send text messages to each other at the same time. This form of communication is similar to a telephone conversation, but uses electronic text as a medium rather than a human voice. Since instant messaging is based on electronic text, it relies on computer systems to operate because they are the only devices capable of transmitting and manipulating electronic data. These two new communication methods are bringing people closer together on a global scale, which is good for society.

New social problems will continue to emerge, so computers will be applied to these issues. These machines are the future work horses, so society will rely heavily on them. As mentioned above, the three most important ways in which computers now benefit from society are to create more information technology professionals, develop new car security features, and open up groundbreaking communication methods. Therefore, through these three examples, computer systems have proven to be of great benefit to society, and society will continue to rely on the benefits these systems provide in the future.
