Perhaps one of the worst things is that the government is so big that it can provide you with everything you need, because once this happens, it is big enough, you don't need it, and you don't have enough to take what you have. Everything - including your life. Many left-wing progressives believe that we need a government to look after the people - but this is a slap in the face of the concept of self-reliance - it is indeed part of the Americans and part of the American tradition. We are not a weak country, nor a weak culture. However, every year we seem to adopt more dominant mentality in our population.
There is an interesting TED talk released on October 7, 2013, titled; "Michael Sandel: Why We Shouldn't Trust the Market with Our Citizens," he suggested, usually money, the trade unit we expected, not Handle the answers to our affairs or the appropriate solutions in society. He believes that market mechanisms, marketing thinking and market solutions sometimes disappoint us and offer numerous examples to illustrate a very compelling case.
I invited Michael Sandel to ask Ludwig van Misses to read "bureaucracy." It supports your view and is the subject of this work. This is an older book, but I'm sure you can find an online copy somewhere, and he has added other important issues, including approvals and objections, to help you explore this topic in depth. By reading, you will hone your debate and intelligence on this topic.
It is a paradox that we need more government intervention in our lives to protect our own arguments - this is what zoo animals must go through, I ask; do you want to live in a zoo? The TED talk is no different from the politician speech we expect from the left - he certainly has a lot of applause for his party line - still, trying to overthrow our economy, our way of life will usher in a more progressive and benign new In the form of communism, this is not my view of the wisdom strategy.
Perhaps we should allow technologists to build a smaller version of the so-called perfect world and do so without a help, for a 20-year test study and pilot project. If it works, let them scale up and eventually make them their own country - if it works as well as they say [it won't, but humorous me here] then we can invite them to another TED talk, Tell us all about it.
