Pharmaceutical sales career - dream job or dead end?

After ten years of ups and downs in the pharmaceutical industry, I have a sales representative job. Recently I came across a very interesting question: Will a drug sales representative become a job that is trying to enter or will be extinct? Obviously, this problem has become confusing, and I will use my personal experience to explain why.

Thin line between occupation and work

Remember the favorite quotes of all time, "Give someone a fish, you feed one day. Teach others to fish, you eat for a lifetime." This completely separates the profession from the work. Now, I work for a pharmaceutical company to promote their diagnostic equipment brand. That is my job. But if I let people work for me, sell my device brand - it's a profession.

My point is simple: work is a stepping stone to a career. A job prepares you to enter your career; this takes us to the next point.

Is the drug sales representative a dream job?

I have a friend [let's call him Adam, such as sake], who worked for a pharmaceutical company that sells orthopedic implants. One day, a common friend asked him: "Adam, how long have you been working like this, with that big bag, begging for sales?" Although Adam was only close to $30,000.00 during that time, he was dumbfounded. He does not seem to have the right answer.

But today, I am pleased to report that Adam is the regional sales manager for a local generics company, promoting anti-hypertensive products across the country. He asked people to report to him that his main task was to infiltrate, develop and maintain accounts, especially in the government hospital sector.

He didn't have the sweat and blood as a sales representative beforehand, and he couldn't have such a flying drug sales career. He still carries the bag, but the content, style and purpose are different. He has now started his career. Know him, I know this is another job before he moves forward.

So if I am asked if a drug sales representative is a dream job or another dead end problem, my answer depends only on what you want to get from it. You can stick to the job; carry a bag of details and beg for all your work life, or you can decide to move on and pursue a career. It all depends on you.
