This is the first anniversary of the Work Alchemy podcast! I was led to bring you these inspiring and in-depth conversations with entrepreneurs and leaders who combine traditional business success with a truly productive world.
Most importantly, this is what I want: financial success + positive contribution = influence. In podcasts, you can see how these entrepreneurs and leaders do it. I look forward to bringing you more!
I learned a lot along the way and wanted to share it with you, so you can create your own professional podcast. Think of this article as a podcast 201. For basics, check out what you need to know to start your own podcast.
The good news is that you don't need a professional studio or dozens of senior technicians to help you. Podcasts like professionals can get access to each business owner through nominal resources.
Here are 8 strategies to improve podcast quality to professional level:
1. Create a substantial backlog
If I have learned one thing, it is to make a lot of backlogs. If you play once a week, then I recommend at least one month in advance. Interviews must be rescheduled, and major projects may slow down your ability to make new episodes, which is inevitable. When you create a to-do list, you'll make better, less stressful decisions from podcast themes to technical considerations. In addition, your audience will like this consistency.
2. Surprise people
Once your podcast is up and running for a while, the novelty begins to disappear. Even if your theme or theme continues to appeal to people, give people a good reason to listen to new episodes by mixing.
If your podcast is alone, bring some guests to a group discussion or interview. Conduct a street interview with your subject at the event [so you can adjust the sound quality].
If your podcast is a series of interviews, then you only need to be your host and guest to introduce your own perspective. As I found in my podcasts, people want to hear from you!
3. Provide different lengths
Your audience doesn't always have time to listen to a full 55-minute interview, even if it's appealing. Give people a variety of hearings, and if they have limited time, they can choose a shorter episode.
Some podcasts have a defined or consistent shorter length. While this makes it easier to sound, it can also limit your depth of focus on the subject. Choose whether you want to be easy or deep. It depends on who your audience is.
4. Listen to your audience
Consider your theme and your audience. It is worth knowing your audience and their preferences. You can ask people to give you feedback about podcasts through your email list or podcast itself. Social media is a great way to get to know what the audience wants. I have gained so much valuable feedback in this way.
5. Attracting the audience from the beginning
The introduction of your podcast is very important. Write it down to capture the attention of the audience immediately. Use it to set the tone and provide important information about what is going to happen.
Even if people have been listening for a while, different aspects of the familiar introduction will highlight their awareness each time they are heard. Therefore, we must count every word.
6. Add a call to action
Most podcasts are not directly monetized, so please include a compelling call-to-action in your podcast. Think about how podcasts fit into your overall marketing and business strategy. Keep in mind how podcasts affect your business. What call-to-action is best now? It is possible to ask people to join your email list, provide products or services, or invite them to an event.
7. Be careful how you monetize
You can also monetize directly through podcasts. Some podcasts are monetized by advertising or by company or foundation funds. In these cases, please describe the ads or funds in each episode so that people have a clear understanding of the source of the financing. This is a legal way to keep your podcast and even give you some income to create it.
I recently learned about a podcast that charges people through this episode. In this case, the owner uses their large audience to get people exposed. But keep in mind that many podcasts with a large audience are looking for guests who don't have to pay.
Another strategy I have seen is to use this payment method to indirectly contact famous associations. It is important to note that in order to maintain the trust of the audience, don't mislead your people to podcast with you in these payment arrangements. If you are found, it may be counterproductive.
In addition to this practical consideration, I will never advocate misleading people. Be careful not to use suspicious strategies to reduce your credibility. Once you lose your trust, it is difficult to recover. Make your product or service better and build a participatory community where you don't have to sacrifice your integrity for success.
8. Help people find the Nuggets
Pulling out the wonderful moments in the podcast will appeal to the audience in a different and engaging way. As I did, send them an email containing the podcast Nuggets, or create a separate, shorter episode with the full recording of the great content. In this way, people can enter and still benefit from the key points.
I even added this method to add value by what I said to the guests. All of this can be delivered in a very tight time, making it easy for your audience to read or listen.
As a way for people to promote their business, podcasting has become more and more popular. By providing a professional approach to help you stand out from this growing popularity, you can be proud and fit your overall strategy.
