Shortcomings of solar energy

• The initial cost is a major drawback of installing a solar system, primarily because of the high cost of the semiconductor materials used to build the solar system.
• The cost of solar energy is also high compared to the supply of non-renewable utilities. As energy shortages become more prevalent, solar energy is becoming more price competitive.
• Solar panels require a considerable amount of mounting area to achieve good efficiency.
