Every January, I write an article to help you think about family, electronic and personal safety. This year I will explain in most parts of this article how to protect myself after a data breach in 2018.
2018 was a bad year because of the hacking and irregularities of many large companies that led to the theft of our personal information. Therefore, there is no error in your own name, and the email address and password are stolen. In some cases, other personal information [such as your address, phone number, or even medical information] will be revealed. This year I think it is very important that you spend some time on your electronic security. So what can you do to protect yourself and your online data?
password:
Starting with each online account, there should be a separate unique password. It should be at least 12 characters long, uppercase, lowercase, numbers and symbols. Don't turn it into a dictionary word. You might say how do I track all these new passwords? The answer is a good password manager, there are many. I use DashLane to find what you like and it will make your life easier. They are available for all platforms and devices, such as smartphones, tablets and desktops.
Two-factor authentication:
This is after you enter your unique password, the website will send the code to your smartphone via SMS or email. You then enter the code into your site for access. This code is only active for a short period of time. You should use this feature on at least all financial websites. If you use Facebook or Instagram, please review your post about yourself. Try to view this information like a bad guy and you might be surprised by what you found.
This year I spent a lot of space telling you how to protect yourself after the data leak in 2018. Before I finish this article, I want to make sure that you are safe, especially if you leave the United States. Be sure to leave your trip at home with a copy of your passport and driver's license. Buying travel insurance can help pay for any medical emergency or emergency transportation home. Finally, know where you are, if your instincts tell you not to go.
