Dog House Program - Choose the right size dog house for your pet

There are a few things to consider before buying a dog house plan. It is important to choose the right size kennel for the safety and comfort of your pet. The first step is to measure your dog to determine which category he or she may be suitable for. If your dog is just a puppy, you need to refer to the list of breeds below to estimate the size of your dog when it is about one year old.

Typical sizes for dog houses are small, medium, large and super large. Be sure to choose a plan that is big enough so that your dog can easily turn around inside. The inner width and length of the dog house should be equal to or greater than the total length of the dog [excluding the tail]. Choose a width of one inch or more, which is greater than the length of the dog. Choose a length that is about 30% longer than the length of the dog.

The inner height of the kennel should be 25% higher than the overall height of your dog. For example; if your dog is 20 inches tall from the top of his head to his paws, the internal height should be 25 inches high.

Make sure the door is big enough to prevent your dog from entering the kennel without falling. A good rule of thumb is to make the door open at least 1 inch higher than the height of your dog. When you enter the doghouse, your dog will bow his head.

Use the list below to choose the small, medium, large or oversized kennel program for your breed.
