Maslow's marketing filter

One of the foundations of all marketing and advertising training is the teaching of the Maslow Needs Pyramid. This pyramid shows the different incentives and needs in a person's life and how they are built together. It is said that this is to help marketing students understand the motivations and thinking of consumers. The problem is that I have never seen it in textbooks. It was proposed as the basis for human motivation and then it was deleted.

I want to introduce you to a method of using the Maslow Demand Pyramid so that you can gain insight into the consumer's mind and understand the factors that they are considering to really stimulate them to buy your product or service.

Maslow needed the pyramid to present human needs in order to pursue and satisfy each need before considering the next level of demand; they depended on each other. The most basic to the most complex requirements are:

- Physiological needs: food, shelter, gender

- Security needs: clothes, weapons, self-defense

- Social needs: social acceptance

- Respect for needs: self-acceptance

- Satisfy your needs: the feeling of owning and achieving your goals

So the question is, "How do we use this model to get into the minds of consumers?"

Let's consider a private fitness training service. Here's how it works at the most basic level. Put yourself in the consumer's position and think you are considering hiring a personal fitness instructor.

1. How will personal fitness training affect my access to and use of food? refuge? Sexual behavior? [Now you understand why you use sex when marketing so many products - we react instinctively to it]

2. How will personal fitness training affect my personal safety?

  - You may be in a better state and may run faster than the robbers.

3. How will personal fitness training positively influence my position in society? In my social circle? Visit different social circles?

4. How will personal fitness training affect my perception of myself?

5. Does personal fitness training affect my personal sense of accomplishment?

I know that most consumers will ask themselves these types of questions without really considering these issues. When you deliberately ask yourself these types of questions, the answers you develop will give you insight into the processes that consumers may consider or cannot tolerate when considering purchasing personal fitness training services.

This process will also help you define your marketing approach and let consumers consider your personal fitness training services. Using Maslow's Needs Pyramid can help you position your marketing. It is the basis for:

Attention

Development interest

Creating desire

Promote commitment

Incentive action

If you can use Maslow's Needs Pyramid to get into the minds of consumers through the problem filters I mentioned above, then you will have a significant marketing advantage because you can now respond to your consumers' internal conversations.

Using this type of filtering process can also help you create requirements in the process of not having an interest in your product or service. Simply place yourself in the consumer's location and show you marketing in such a way as to answer or resolve each requirement in the hierarchy.

Maslow's Needs Pyramid is a powerful tool that teaches every marketing and advertising student in the world, but must understand and apply if it is really useful. Next time you consider a marketing campaign, try using Maslow's marketing filters. It can help you better understand the consumer's thinking and feelings.
