Who has never lost the sales champion? No! Sales champions are constantly picking up. Sales champions are often the biggest losers. They just refused to quit. Perseverance is their way of life. Let me tell you the story of one of my colleagues. His name is Omar Periu. When Omar was seven years old, he found himself and his mother and brother at the Miami International Airport. They just left their home in Cuba because Omar knew it for the last time.
Communism is spreading around the world and it is stealing the freedom of the Cuban people. Omar's father knew it was time for his family to leave Cuba. Because Castro's regime was so closely watched by him, Omar's father thought it necessary to send his family to the United States. A few weeks later, he met his family.
This is a tough time for the Periu family. They have no money and no big family to help them. A few months later, in the winter of 1961, they went to Joliet, Illinois with the help of the church.
Omar's father is a well-educated person who is passionate about himself and, more importantly, his family. He was able to find a job as a mechanic and they found a small apartment to live in.
Omar and his brother Eide are very difficult for the school. They don't speak English, and other kids laugh at them and even steal their bikes. But Omar learned a valuable lesson from his father. Many times, he will hear these words from his father. "Who are you, where you are from or what color you are not important. You can do whatever you want." These words inspired Omar to overcome life. The challenge. These words are the key to his subsequent success.
Perius is a talented family and Omar is no exception. As the years passed, Omar's enthusiasm for music flourished. He worked as a laborer in a quarry and received a scholarship to complete his university studies. He studied opera and music at the University of Southern Illinois. Two years after graduating from college, Omar returned to the quarry to save money so he could move to California.
Omar has a dream. He wants to cut his own record. This is why he wants to go to California. But you may have realized that the music business is not easy to break into. Omar had to work on a health club membership. This work paid at least the bill.
Omar then met Tom Murphy, who is one of the owners of the health club. Omar knows that if he wants to be rich, then he must do what the rich do [another lesson from his father]. So, Omar asked Mr. Murphy if he could speak.
Mr. Murphy happens to be a business partner of Tom Hopkins, one of the nation's top sales trainers. Mr. Murphy suggested that Omar begin to participate in sales training seminars, read inspiring self-help books, and listen to sales tapes. Mr. Murphy also introduced Omar to many successful business men and women and their success materials.
Well, Omar has not been a top salesperson for the company for a long time. He eventually has nine of his own health clubs. But Omar still has a hollow feeling inside. He still has not reached the dream of cutting his own record.
After the record company repeatedly refused, Omar accepted his father's advice and acquired his own record company. Now he can cut his own record. Omar was named "Best Latin Male Singer of the Year" and "Artist of the Year" in 1986, 1987 and 1988, and won "CHIN PLATA" and "OTTO".

Today, Omar is a successful professional speaker at Tom Hopkins International. This is how I met Omar. Tom Hopkins talks about many of Peter Lowe International's "SUCCESS" seminars [now called Get Motivated Seminars]. I did some work behind Peter Lowe at the seminar in the mid-1990s. I am honored to work side by side with Omar. He is a great man with integrity, courage, persistence, loyalty and self-sacrifice. He is a real sales champion. Let us follow Omar's leading position to become a sales champion, they will occasionally fall down and always come back!
