Residents living in apartments can do a lot of green things.

One of the better things about renting a home than ownership is that it's easier to get close to work. The closer you are to work, the less pollution you have at work. With shorter commute times, you can spend more time with friends and family. Try to find an apartment near the bus stop [bus, train, light rail, airport]. You can also look for apartments that offer environmentally friendly resources, such as additional recycling bins, native plant gardens, low VOC paint, smokeless and other resources. Look for apartments close to local stores so you can walk to the store to get groceries, food and other common items.

The most obvious things tenants can do are reduction, reuse and recycling. If your building does not have a recycling plan, check to start or find the nearest recycling center. Know your neighbors, so if you have items that you no longer need, you can see if they want it. You can also do some simple things.

• If you are not using a light, please turn it off when you leave the room. Also, try using energy-saving fluorescent bulbs, which helps reduce electricity bills and provide longer periods of light.
• When using air conditioning in the summer, be sure to only turn on the device when you go home or absolutely when necessary.
• Another good way to reduce electricity bills and save energy is to unplug the appliance when not using it. Or, plug the device into the power strip and turn off the power strip when you are not using it!
• The refrigerant does use a lot of electricity. Never set the temperature in the refrigerator too cold.

Can you compost in the apartment? Yes, make a worm compost bin. You can even install low-flow water equipment with the owner and landlord of the building. Another important thing is to let your landlord know when there is a leak or your apartment is too hot. Then they can fix these items without wasting resources to help our environment.
