Predicted SUV Reliability Rating 2011 - CR's Top 5 and Worst 10 Small, Medium, Luxury, Large SUVs

The Consumer Report recently released a forecast for the short-term reliability of sport utility vehicles. Based on the availability of data, the forecast is based on the frequency of serious problems in the last 3 or fewer model years. This article lists the top 5 and bottom 10 CR companies' proven reliability in small SUVs, medium SUVs, luxury SUVs and large SUVs.

The short-term reliability predicted by CR in 2011 is:

Honda CR-V
V6 Toyota RAV4
Mitsubishi Outlander
4-cylinder Toyota RAV4
Non-turbo Subaru Forester.

The Honda CR-V and 4-cylinder RAV4 also have an excellent 2010 long-term reliability history. The CR-V has the highest reliability rating [far above average] for consumers in the 2000-2009 model year and has the second highest level [better than the average] for the remaining two models. The 4-cylinder RAV4 has the highest CR rating in the nine-year model year and ranks second in the remaining model year.

Five medium-sized SUVs
from

 2011 is:

Toyota FJ Cruiser
4-cylinder Toyota Highlander
V6 Toyota Highlander
V6 Modern Santa Fe
Nissan Pathfinder.

Among the five models, the V6 Toyota Highlander has an excellent history of long-term reliability. For the 2000-2009 model, it received the highest rating of CR in the nine-year model year and the second highest rating in the remaining model year.

The from

Five luxury SUVs
from

 2011 is:

Lexus LX
Acura MDX
Lincoln Navigator
Lexus RX350
Lincoln MKT.

The Lexus RX and Lexus LX also have excellent long-term reliability ratings. For 2010, RX achieved CR's highest reliability rating for nine years in the last ten model years and received the second highest rating for the remaining model year. The large Lexus LX made in Japan has the highest CR rating in eight years in its nine-year data history and is the second highest rating remaining.

The history of Acura MDX is less obvious, with only three years of model years being much higher than the average, while the average of the remaining six model years is above average.

Top 5 large SUVs

 Yes:

Ecoboost Ford Flex
Toyota Sequoia
Front wheel drive Chevrolet Traverse
Chevrolet Suburban 2500
Yukon XL 2500.

Ecoboost ratings are based only on data for one model year. Despite the significant reliability rating in 2011, the long-term reliability of Toyota Sequoia assets remains mediocre. In 2011, Traverse, Suburban and XL are fairly mediocre. Unless the price of a luxury sports utility vehicle is too high or the size of the vehicle is forced to purchase, it is best to strictly avoid using the group.

The short-term reliability predicted by 2011, in ascending order [worst], is:

Dodge Nitro
Jeep freedom
4-cylinder all-wheel drive Mazda Tribute
4-cylinder all-wheel drive Ford Escape
V6, all-wheel drive Mazda Tribute
V6, all-wheel drive Ford Escape
Jeep compass
V6, front wheel drive Mazda Tribute
V6, front wheel drive Ford Escape
4-cylinder front wheel drive Mazda Tribute
4-cylinder front wheel drive Ford Escape.

Dodge Nitro and Jeep Liberty did not perform well in avoiding reporting serious problems. For the model year 2007 and 2008 [only two reliability ratios are available in 2010], Nitro's rating is one higher than the average rating and one lower than the average rating. For the four most recent model years of Jeep Liberty, the two reliability ratings for 2010 were worse than the average and two were worse than the average.

The from

10 medium SUVs at the bottom

 The worst thing is:

Dodge Tour
4 Jeep Wrangler
4-cylinder GMC terrain
V6 GMC terrain
Nissan Xtrerra
Turbo Mazda CX-7
Modern Veracruz
Double door Jeep Wrangler
V6 Chevrolet Equinox
V6 Kia Sorento.

It is worth noting that the long-term reliability ratings for 2010 are Chevrolet Equinox and Kia Sorento. Equinox's 5-year data history has three ratings that are worse or worse than the average, and Sorento has four such ratings in its six-year data history.

The from

10 luxury SUVs at the bottom
from

 The worst thing is:

Turbo Diesel Mercedes - Mercedes GL Class
6 cylinder BMW X5
Turbo diesel BMW X5
V8 Mercedes - Mercedes GL class
Mercedes-Benz R-Class
Audi Q7
Cadillac Escalade
All-wheel drive Buick Enclave
V6 Mercedes - Mercedes-Benz M-Class
Lexus GX.

The V8 Mercedes-Benz GL class has an average annual lower than average reliability rating for its two models in its two-year 2010 data history, and the six-cylinder BMW X5 has a seven-year average ratio in its nine-year reliability history. Below average, and all - wheel drive Buick Enclave has a below-average rating in its 2-year data history. The Lexus GX has a below-average rating, but the remaining five ratings are above average, with one above average. Therefore, as people view this list, long-term reliability seems to increase with expected short-term reliability.

The from

10 large SUVs at the bottom
from

 The worst thing is:

GMC Yukon Hybrid
Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid
Front wheel drive GMC Acadia
All-wheel drive GMC Acadia
All-wheel drive Ford Flex
Nissan Invincible Fleet
GMC Yukon
Chevrolet Tahoe
GMC Yukon XL 1500
Chevrolet Suburban 1500.

Consumer Reports ' Reliability Ratings are widely respected and North American consumers pursue high quality products. The probability of a serious problem is very low.
