In the Vedic tradition of India, the Trinity of God is the Brahma of the Creator, the Vishnu of the Guardian and the Shiva of the Destroyer. Like Kali, Shiva is a god that represents the destruction of illusion... to deny anything that separates us from our truth. Whether in a sacred relationship or in a personal transformation in our lives,

Shiva is a great destroyer, helping us to transform and succumb to our true nature.
In Tantra, we heard Shiva and his spouse Shakti, known as the Holy Couple; the ultimate union of men and women. If we look deeper, then Shiva / Shakti's sexual alliance is not just about yoni&and lingams meeting with a few well-dressed girls! In the Vedic tradition, Shiva Lingam and Yoni symbolize the sacred alliance of active and dynamic aspects. Therefore, the desire to be with our partner in the alliance represents a basic desire to combine with the lover or our true nature [consciousness].
Shiva represents the inconspicuous permanentness of Shakti. That's why we saw Kali's feet trimming the photos on Shiva. This is not to compare the gender of a man with that of a woman... it is just reminding us of the sacred drama. In Shiva's active sacred consciousness, the sacred energy of the active Shakti appeared, bringing this consciousness into form. Shiva / Shakti, Yin / Yang, the sacred interaction between men and women shows us that no one can exist.
When we connect to the stillness and silence of the core we are in, we embody Shiva in our lives. The reality of Shiva is about existence rather than about doing it. Shiva represents his integrity and appears on other people from a still place. In the sacred drama of men/women, this is what Shakti really needs... the land of silence she can create. When a person symbolizes Shiva, he exudes inner strength, firmness and stillness. This made Shakti, his divine spouse, free to form this still.
When a man can't embody Shiva, his Shakti can't surrender to him because she must personally embody Shiva. This is the core of many pains that occur in relationships. Whether we are male or female, there is no difference between heterosexuality or homosexuality, because the divine game between Shiva and Shakti [inactive sacred consciousness and active sacred energy] exists in various forms of relationship.
In Vedic astrology, Shiva is represented by Saturn and is sometimes called the King of Karma. Like Shiva, Saturn ultimately represents a negation of misidentification associated with limited self-awareness. The Saturn aspect of the astrological chart, on the personality level, represents the main imprint of our experience around separation consciousness. This imprint does not represent our true identity, but the contractual status we take for survival.
Since Saturn corresponds to the first chakra that represents the basic needs of survival, the fear of survival for everyone varies according to their early imprints and circumstances. It may be manifested as fear of being seen, fear of expressing emotions, fear of telling the truth, fear of giving or receiving love, or fear of acting or advocating oneself. For example, on a personality level, fear of being seen may prevent a person from actually shining and giving gifts to the Earth. However, at the soul level, this may actually be an opportunity to learn true self-depreciation or humility. However, the challenge is to see Saturn or Shiva as our spiritual ally, not our publisher.
Saturn around the Zodiac takes about 2.8 years, which means that every seven years after birth, Saturn [through the transit in the sky] has an important relationship with the location of Saturn at birth. At about 7, 21, 35, 49, and 63, Saturn is square [90 degrees from its birth position.] At about 14, 42 and 70, Saturn is opposed [and its life is the same] at about 28.5-29 and 57-58, Saturn is in phase [0 degrees or merged with its birth position], also known as Saturn's return.
This seven-year cycle represents the elimination of misidentification of self-concepts or finite concepts. Even if our identity seems to be solid [father, mother, son, daughter, lover, employee, rich/poor, etc.], in fact, these identifications do not represent our true identity. When we experienced the seven-year cycle of Saturn/Shiva, sometimes what we saw seemed to be being taken away by us. Usually, what is taken away is the misidentification that no longer serves us. This is the true power of Saturn and Shiva... to destroy or deny false things so that we can maintain integrity in the true nature. By destroying any separation illusion of our imprint, we discover the true nature of Shiva, namely, stillness, strength and existence.
The power of doing this in a relationship or sacred partnership is that our relationship is a direct reflection of our inner state and accurately reflects where we experience separation. The most intimate [as I see it] comes from sharing our separation from our partners... our vulnerability, the deepest secrets and fears. When "in my sight" is combined with Tantra's intimate relationship as a path to the Holy Alliance, the relationship will escalate to a new level of experience. When we do recognize and share our humanity with our partners and embrace and experience our divinity together, relationships become the highest possible path of transformation.
