Will the fax machine be outdated?

For decades, fax machines have been a core part of many people's offices. The same technology has been in use since around the 1970s, but it was not until ten years later that fax machines and fax technology began to spread in more companies. In general, fax machines have replaced many of the things that have been done with the postal service before, and even handed things over to others. With mail, you may end up waiting for the document to get there. If you use overnight service, then you wait at least twenty-four hours, which may be much more expensive than using a regular mail service. If you wait a full day to get this information, it means you can't implement the information in these documents by the next day. If you send a response, another person can't respond to it until you wait another day for them to get the file.

Of course, there are always calls, but this is not always the best or most convenient way to share ideas and information. It is difficult to communicate with many facts and data over the phone, and some people want to provide a hard copy of the information when needed. In the 1980s, fax machines became a more common sight in any office building. To own a machine, you have to buy a machine and a new phone line, but most people think that the convenience of using the machine is very worthwhile to increase operating costs, sometimes requiring repairs.

What is this improvement? If you call someone to tell them what you think or give them some financial data, then that person will not have their own copy, or they may not remember the data or be easily accepted. Mail is slow, so even if you copy all the work and process it to someone, they won't get it right away. Fax machines solve these problems by getting files in minutes instead of days. The other person will have an exact copy of the file you are holding, and they can immediately read and respond to the content contained in the file. They can call or send back a fax right away, so fax machines can help people get their work done faster than before.

As with most other advances in business technology, faxes have changed since they were first put into use. It's now cheaper and doesn't require a fax machine or an extra phone call. Online faxing is becoming more common, and its cost is only a fraction of the cost of owning and running a fax machine. You only need one fax account and your computer.
