In January of each year, I wrote an article to help you think about family, electronic and personal safety. In 2017, assistants like Alexa and Siri became "smart" and claimed to help us more in their daily lives.
Home and lock security:
Look at your lock and your door. Is your lock running smoothly at least level 2? Are all the outer doors installed with lock tongues? Can you tell me all your keys? If not, replace the lock or relock it. Try using a lockable key ring to control your key.
Is your alarm system working properly? The biggest change from 2017 to 2017 in 2017 is that most alarm systems can now be controlled via smartphone apps. Maybe it's time to upgrade to a modern alarm system that can be controlled by a smartphone. It should communicate with the central station through a cell service rather than a landline.
Computer security:
In 2017, our computers, tablets and smartphones became smarter. They are also more open and offer a wide range of Wi-Fi connections. These connections should be protected by some type of Internet security with built-in Wi-Fi security. Make sure you are using the latest Wi-Fi security. We use home automation more, which exposes us to more security issues. Be careful how you use Alexa, Siri, Cortana and Google Assistant.
If possible, use a credit card instead of a debit card. Credit cards give you more security and you can use their money for 30 days. Just make sure you pay your bills in full every month.
Personal safety:
Pay attention to your surroundings while driving or walking, and keep abreast of your location. If you "Gut" tell you to leave an area, listen and leave. Park the vehicle in a well-lit area, leaving nothing visible, such as GPS, laptops, etc. When you get home, park your car in the garage and close the door before going out. If it's dark, try using a light on your own timer to have a light when you get home. It would always be better to walk into a bright house.
All of the above projects are common sense and everyone has different security needs, so this article is designed to help you think about your personal safety.
