Brazilian wedding tradition

Brazilian weddings have a rich tradition and culture. They are usually very expensive, and the parents of the bride usually pay for the wedding, but this is less and less due to the overall cost. Brazil is a Christian country and therefore has several customs similar to other Christian regions; however, there are some different traditions.

Wedding ring

Unlike in the United States, engagement rings are not important. Instead, the couple exchange wedding rings. Place the ring on the right hand side and switch to the left hand during the wedding. The bride and groom are used to writing each other's names on the ring. Abandoning the ring during the ring exchange is considered unfortunate and is told that the marriage will not last if it occurs.

Kitchen shower

Unlike typical wedding showers in other countries, in Brazil they throw a so-called kitchen shower. It used to be a small gathering of brides' close friends so that they could catch up and present the bride's gift for the kitchen. However, the party has become bigger and bigger, and even no man can join.

Wedding party

Brazilian brides can wear any dress that she wants, but white is a tradition. However, wearing golden shoes is a habit. For bridesmaids, this is considered unfortunate; therefore no two people can wear the same color. Unlike the United States and other European countries who pick their grooms in Brazil a few months in advance, the groom can wait until the last hour to choose him. The wedding is usually three pairs of couples very close to the bride and groom, but they don't have to be together.

Before the ceremony

The day before the wedding, the Brazilian bride and her family went to the spa to rest, which is a tradition. There, they can get a message and make hair, hair and makeup before important days. However, when the wedding is really there, it is a tradition for the bride to be at least 10 minutes late because it is considered good luck. Sometimes, the groom and other guests have to wait a few hours for the bride to finally prepare for her important day.

wedding

Wedding ceremonies are like most Christian weddings. However, the difference is that the bride has two girls to accompany her, one to distribute flowers and the other to hold a ring. Then, the bride and groom will recite their vows and then transfer their rings from the right hand to the left hand to symbolize the change from engagement to marriage. Most wedding ceremonies can last up to an hour, but at other times it may last longer.

Wedding reception

The wedding reception is a huge gathering where guests and newlyweds drink, dance and deliver speeches. A tradition is that the couple exchange gifts with their parents. The bride usually takes off their shoes and puts them in the middle of the dance floor. When guests dance, they will save money to buy shoes to help support the financial future of the wedding. When they left, they offered their guests a Brazilian sweet, bem casado [meaning "marriage"] instead of getting married.
