Step by step DIY test Com port (serial port RS232) is checked by yourself through loopback test

How to test serial RS232 connection step by step?

This is called a loop test method.

This method will send and receive data in the same port call ' LOOP BACK TEST'. We use HyperTerminal software to send and receive data [standard software in Windows XP Home and Professional].

Why are we doing this?

When there is a problem with the interface hardware device or the hardware function is incorrect. This method is easy to troubleshoot on its own.

Hardware requirements [none]

Software requirements [hyper terminal]

Skill requirement [none]

Accessories [bundles, paper clips or anything can be connected to the DB9 needle]

First step - preparation

Find someone who connects [short] your target com port [DB9 Pin] to someone called Serial 2-3.
Turn off the computer shorting pin 2-3 [2-3 pins only - be careful of other pins].
Use a bunch or paper clip]

- Step 2 - Prepare

Start your computer and run HyperTerminal software
Note: Start menu > Programs > Accessories > Communications > HyperTerminal

Step 3 - Configuration

Configuring HyperTerminal Connection Settings

Enter the connection name [you can use "test my com port"]

Select the target com port to test [com1, com2, com ... n]

Attribute connection and click " from

Restore Defaults
from

 "

Step 4 - Test

Perform a loopback test by pressing any key... on the keyboard

If you see any characters on the screen HyperTerminal - comport is normal.
