The difference between digital books and e-books

Most people today don't know the difference between digital books and e-books. In fact, many people think they are the same person. They cannot be farther from the truth. They are completely different species of the same animal.

Digital book

Digital books, sometimes called e-books or PDF books, are scanned, standard printed, and digitally faxed for publishing books. You can think of them as an enhanced copy of the actual hard or paperback book we already know and love.

When we talk about digital versions of new publications, they are almost identical to the original publication. When talking about old and even ancient publications, they are much better than any originals you find on the shelves of a local library. Since they are original printed faxes, this does improve quality and helps overcome many old book issues such as yellowed pages, stains, transparent or onion paper, colored paper, brown ink, and more. These are scanned pages, not 'copy' pages and print quality do represent better quality than the original books.

Most digital books are in PDF format, although Amazon offers the Kindle version, Mobipocket offers the MOBI version, then the plain text format, and many others.

Digital books are usually much cheaper than hard or paperback books, and there is almost no shipping, unless they are provided on CD [CD-ROM].

E-book

E-books are also digital books, but they are designed and written for the Internet. Many, if not most, e-books are not officially "published" unless you calculate some content posted on the Internet as a release.

Most e-books are written for quick, with almost no cost other than possible distribution. Most are short, almost always less than 100 pages, usually less than 50 pages. Some e-books are completely smashed in a few hours. They are usually just a few short reports combined.

Many e-books are self-help books or some kind of manual, but if you look for them, there are some e-book history and novels that can be found. They tend to have little or no literary value, and their intention is to distribute facts, instructions and/or ideas.

Sometimes you may encounter an ebook version of a hard or soft book. It will even be called the "e-book version" of any book. But if you look closely, you will find that this e-book version is almost always much smaller than the original. You can also refer to the "eBook version" as the "lite version" of the book.

Although you will find many e-books in PDF format, much like e-books, many are all common interactive applications. But don't let the initial attraction of the interaction fool you. Even if it sounds like a high-tech education, you will find that there are not many promises of interaction. It just obscures the fact that these books are short, technically no more than a few pages, and have little practical or even lower academic value.

Last but not least, e-books are usually free or cheap, although you occasionally find that some professional teaching "programs" cost hundreds of dollars.

in conclusion

Technically, e-books are digital books, but there are actually big differences. Personally, I usually prefer digital books to its ebook cousins.
